About this project

Objective: To design and implement a cloud-based system for automated inventory and supply-chain tracking using RFID technology integrated with a live web dashboard for Indian SMEs.

Inventory mismanagement and supply-chain inefficiencies remain significant challenges for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and retailers throughout India, leading to losses, theft, inaccurate stock levels and delayed deliveries, impacting operational costs and customer satisfaction.

This project proposes an end-to-end engineering solution combining RFID hardware for automated asset and product identification with a secure, cloud-native web dashboard, enabling real-time tracking, alerts, and analytics across supply-chain stages. The system integrates RFID readers at key checkpoints, a central database, and a user-friendly web interface accessible on desktop and mobile devices.

The working model will demonstrate RFID-tagged items moving through mock supply-chain checkpoints, with live updates on the dashboard showing stock levels, asset movement, and alerts for discrepancies. Key deliverables include an RFID hardware setup, RESTful backend APIs, a responsive React dashboard, role-based access, analytics, and MIS reporting features.

This solution empowers Indian businesses to reduce pilferage, optimize inventory, and improve traceability, supporting compliance with industry best practices (e.g., IS 13252 for RFID safety). The platform is scalable for urban and semi-urban deployments and adaptable for sectors like retail, pharma, and logistics.

Milestones
1. Synopsis & Problem Definition (Stage-I Review-1)
10 marks 21d
Submit project synopsis detailing the inventory tracking problem, affected stakeholders, and proposed RFID-based solution; reviewed by faculty for relevance and feasibility.
2. Literature / Market Survey & Requirement Analysis (Stage-I Review-2)
15 marks 28d
Conduct market and literature survey on RFID supply-chain systems in India, analyze requirements, and document user stories and system specifications; evaluated through a group presentation and report.
3. System Design, Methodology & Cost Analysis (Stage-I close)
20 marks 35d
Develop detailed system architecture, hardware-software design, database schema, and a bill of materials with cost analysis; reviewed via design diagrams and cost-justification report.
4. Implementation / Fabrication of Working Model (Stage-II Review-1)
25 marks 42d
Build and integrate RFID hardware, implement backend APIs and web dashboard, and demonstrate the tracking workflow with sample items; assessed by live demo and code walkthrough.
5. Testing, Results & Validation (Stage-II Review-2)
20 marks 35d
Test system for accuracy, reliability, security, and performance; validate results with real inventory movements and document findings; evaluated by test reports and validation metrics.
6. Report, Paper & Demonstration / Oral Defense (Stage-II final Oral & Practical)
10 marks 28d
Submit final project report, IEEE-format paper, and demonstrate the complete system to examiner panel with oral defense; marked based on documentation, innovation, and demonstration quality.
